Sunday Night Suds - Leinenkugel Beer Garten Tart

This week's Sunday Night Suds looks at Leinenkugel's Beer Garten Tart.

After living 46+ years without trying a Tart Ale, I have now experienced three this month (see review of New Belgium Fat Tire and Friends Fat Sour Apple Ale here http://kosherbeers.blogspot.com/2016/08/sunday-night-suds-new-belgium-fat-sour.html  and Boulevard Tell Tale Tart Ale here http://kosherbeers.blogspot.com/2016/08/sunday-night-suds-boluevard-tell-tale.html).

The Leinenkugel bottle notes that this beer "starts out with a snap of tartness balanced by a subtle sweetness from pale malts. It’s our take on a Berliner Weisse, a classic German biergarten summer favorite. Brewed with American wheat, BeerGarten Tart’s light body and refreshing finish are perfect for warm summer days."

The beer poured a rich yellow with some foam which quickly dissipated. There was some tartness in the beginning which quickly evolved into lemon and made me think shandy (not such a pleasant experience). The tart was somewhat subtle, but the hops were non-existent and the malt backbone was basically the only redeeming quality of the beer. I thought I had made a score when I picked up this six pack for 4.99 at the Big M in Walton (best walk-in cooler for at least fifty miles in all directions) but now I am wondering how I will finish off the rest of the six pack. Don't get me wrong, this is is not sink quality beer, but the flavors of this sour just don't make me want to have another.
